Our Humble Beginnings:
CupcakeCamp was originally the brainchild of a group of folks in San Francisco. The idea was to bring together cupcake lovers, bakers, and eaters. The first one was a huge success so we thought we would bring it to Canada. The first Canadian CupcakeCamp took place in Toronto at LabSpace Studios on January 25, 2009. A second event is planned for Ottawa on March 29, 2009. Similar events are in the works for Edmonton and potentially a few more Canadian cities through 2009.
The concept is roughly based on BarCamp/DemoCamp.
CupcakeCamp is an opportunity for our community to come together and share their enthusiasm for cupcakes with proceeds going to charity. Everyone who brings cupcakes will have the opportunity to brag about their creations which will be presented to the Tasters for a cupcake tasting frenzy!
1. Can I buy or sell cupcakes at the event?
No. CupcakeCamp is for people who want to bring cupcakes and eat them for free *at the event*.
2. Can I really attend if I don’t bring cupcakes?
Yes! While bringing cupcakes is encouraged we need Tasters to help us eat the cupcakes! Cupcake consumption is strictly voluntary.
3. Do I have to bake cupcakes or can I purchase cupcakes?
We need a large number of cupcakes so homemade or store bought are both accepted!
4. How do I sign up?
Registration information will be posted once the next event is scheduled.
5. Do we bake or decorate our cupcakes at the event?
No – your cupcakes should be ready to go at the event. However, feel free to organize your own baking get-togethers with friends before CupcakeCamp!
6. Will there be a Cupcake Competition?
Yes, however the competition is voluntary. When you register as a Baker just let us know which cupcake flavour you will be entering into the competition.
7. Where have CupcakeCamps already taken place?
People have organized CupcakeCamps in San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Toronto and Ottawa so far!
